Two Deals Reportedly To Be Completed Imminently!

It surely must be repetitive when Arsenal fans are constantly linked with just about every name under the sun. One source said that the Gunners have been linked with around 82 transfer targets already during this transfer window! Wow, we must be multi billionaires!!

Arsenal has an active transfer window

However, truth be told, around 99% of those must be 'fake news'. The London club, which is not making it's income from public listings, has to be a viable business model for it's owners, the Kroenkes, to consider even investing one million pounds in additional funding. Unlike Manchester United, Arsenal cannot just go to the FTSE to increase the transfer kitty.

Despite this, the press is seemingly certain that two transfer deals are almost over the line. Now, those transfers are not earth shattering..in fact, they are ones more for the future than the present. As such, whilst I would normally take any transfer news with 'a pinch of salt', I did pay more than a little attention to what has been said this time. So, who are we allegedly going to buy today?

Sambi Lokonga

The first name that is apparently going to sign for us is the Anderlecht midfielder Sambi Lokonga. This young athlete is captain already, albeit at a respectfully lower level than the Gunners.

Whilst I admit that I don't know masses about him, the video compilations on YouTube seem to show a competent, if not electric midfielder. What I saw seems promising, however if solid midfielders were what we are after, then surely Ainsley Maitland-Niles is already in that mold, and already at the club?

Nuno Tavares

The second dead cert signing(allegedly) is Benfica Left Back Nuno Tavares. Unlike Lokonga, Tavares is not captain, he is not even a regular starter for Benfica, having only started less than 10 games last season. However, his Youtube compilation looks very impressive. The trouble with video compilations is that they usually only show the best from the player. This means that if 10% of what he does is amazing in a game, but the rest of the time he's sloppy, then only the 10% will be shown. There must be a reason why he started so few games...and, yes, I am aware that to start would have meant displacing someone who is already very accomplished in that position.

Final Thoughts

With consideration of the above, it seems more likely than not that Arsenal will go ahead with completion of the two signings. Whilst they are not earth shattering developments...certainly not signings that will win us the EPL next year, they are going to strengthen the foundation of the club by having undoubtedly talented youngsters, who will surely blossom, forming part of the future of the club. Also, they, since they are talented, could also possibly offer a great return on investment in the years to come.
